Green Spirit Park
Green Spirit VR Visualization
Green Spirit Park was a full themepark masterplan by Leisure Expert Group for Greenspirit. With 10 themed areas, only two of us working on the VR visualization (alongside other projects), and not much longer than a month before the big presentation, we needed to be smart with our time and aim for an achievable quality level. For the 11 coasters I set up a procedural spline-based system, and I created various other rides manually to greybox quality level. Various mainstreet buildings were already modelled by the architect, and the rest were again greyboxed. Once the entire park was roughly at greybox level, key areas were chosen for concept art, with screenshots provided to the concept artist for paintover.
After the initial greybox was finished, we used the remaining time to bring the quality up before the client demo. We used the concept art and projected it back into the scene as textures, to quickly increase the look of key areas at a relatively low performance increase. Certain specific landmarks were also picked out for manual improvements, and some props like themed streetlights were added.
In terms of VR mechanics, we initially used the pre-existing LEG VR Tablet Navigator. However, that was made for smaller VR projects, and due to the size of the entire park we quickly realized something better was needed. So I created the Scale Navigator for VR viewing, and a simple flatscreen character controller for a built anyone in the company could use. We also used this project to create a VR editor toolset, allowing a VR user to edit the project live in VR. This was especially helpful for adjusting sightlines.
